i feel a little ashamed admitting this, but my guilty pleasure is teen vogue. does anybody else think that some of the content is more practical than any of the high end fashion bibles? more practical, financially accessible and yet equally directional…and sometimes just a little bit more cool?

however,  i must point out that it is supremely vacuous. it is actually quite painful to read (or scan – a product of our media saturated culture) – pages and pages of advertising, whimsical stories on twilight and cast dietary requirements, sycophantic homages to whichever US teenybopper happened to need a product promoted. hot topics include: ‘the top ten tips for a fabulous dorm room’ and with apparent disregard for their involvement: ‘sticky fingers: the rise of shoplifting’. the distinct lack of  intelligent material  and the blatant grooming of young, impressionable readers to become ardent consumers makes me despair. but the fashion is good.  i mean i want to dress like this:

teen vogue: love it and hate it.
