Given the torrential rain storms and drop in temperature, they are a must-have for the commute to college – nothing worse than sitting is a lecture with soggy socks. Well maybe sitting in a Research Methods lecture with soggy socks.

Aideen is shopping in New York but still has time to lust after every girl’s real best friend – the handbag. She is loving this convertible piece from Nyla Noor. It’s all about the versatility: you can alter the bag to suit your look. Throw it over you shoulder for work during the day and then VA VA VOOM – fold it over clutch stylee at night to funk it up.

Literally two for the price of one

Jennie is the mood for dancing and romancing and is lusting after the ultimate accessory to do so – fabulous feather shoes. From A-Wear - yes A-Wear are moving into the shoe market. These beauts are launching on October 4th and have just the right amount of decadence to perk you up through the Winter.

Possibly too beautiful to wear though?

Sarah is lusting over this season’s skirt – the maxi. Worn with chunky knit cardigans and some fantastically high shoes for the perfect Autumn look. Avoid flats though – Irish downpours + flat shoes = soggy wet feet, soggy wet skirt, soggy wet legs etc. Tick the leopard and maxi boxes with this piece from A-Wear.

I don’t know if this is age creeping up on me or a reaction to a pretty big fail by most of the high street stores for A/W 2010, but I seem to be going black and minimal in my fashion choices.  It may also be after reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy on holidays – perhaps I am channelling my inner Lisbeth Salender?  Whatever, I am feeling the grunge look. The refined grunge look I might add – I am not a fan of ripped tights or Taylor Momsen’s racoon eyes.

So I think the focus of my Back to Black Attack is this black leather skirt from Pepe – spied it in BT2 and it screams sophistication rather than try-hard. It’s also available on ASOS – I loves it…I just need to work up the courage to wears it.

I think this dress from Manoush is FABULOUS and could see myself and this dress propping up a bar with a killer pair of stilettos . I love the way the focus is on the bum and not on the cleavage. I am also loving Marks & Spencers tights at the moment and think a pair of the dramatic lace ones could work very well with this outfit. They have some plum/purple ones that could alternatively add a nice contrast.

It is pricey. But,  I did say this winter I am going to try and put together one of those ‘capsule wardrobes’ (such the fash-pack buzz word) and a black dress is a staple right?

These boots from ALDO are bitchin’. They have just the right touch of Victoriana/Gothic going on to fit in with my current clothing mood. I also love boots with lace -ups as they are easier to fit on over leggings/treggings/jeggings (when did we stop wearing trousers?).

I am in love with these embellished black leggings from River Island and think they would look fantastic with one of the many leopard print tops on the High Street. And big hair. These leggings scream big hair

I will be teaming all of the above with my trusty black eye-liner from MAC and hoping to pull off a return to black.  It’s not as simple as piling on a load of black – it may be slimming, but too much and you start getting handed the number for the Samaritans. A lot of black with a lick of class – that’s what I’m after

a) the casual suit (matching slacks and cons)
b) clashing prints (pinstripe and check? well done bezzy boy)
c) heritage – previously considered one of the trends for women, here we see how the male can appropriate the fabrics for a take on A/W heritage

Bez thought he looked like Kim Jong-il in the first picture, so we had to do a round II, replete with my sunnies. Which I left at dinner. And now I am squinting in the sun. Thank you Bez.

Greetings people. As you know, we did a little video experiment at the Irish Bloggers Bash on Saturday night last. We asked all the peeps about their Worst Fashion Moment Ever. Obviously, this question took on a life of it’s own, as us Irish are too ready to ‘fess up to our failings and  humiliations (along the lines of screeching out Pennys ! when asked about a particular item of clothing). Cue much hilarity. But much hilarity means much laughter…much laughter means much noise…and much noise+amateur camera+slightly inebriated filming = Short but Sweet film. We’re still learning, so be patient with us!

Y’see, I get confused when I get paid. I never did business in school, I really only understood the mechanics of an Overdraft a few years ago (charges eh?) and when I see money in my bank account, I presume it’s for me. To spend. On whatever I like.

I mosey into River Island this afternoon, perhaps with the vague intention of buying a pair of slacks, but I literally pick up about 46 items, ranging from alpine jumpers to cocktail dresses to handbags to patterned Henry Holland for Pretty Polly tights (swish). My self-edit mode is distinguishing between what looks good on me and what doesn’t; nothing to do with what I can and can’t afford. I just don’t forecast my budget like that. (WHAT BUDGET?)  It’s so limiting on my creative aura y’know?

So I got me some slacks – nipped in at the ankle, tuxedo style, pretty slick. It has a detachable bow, which I like, as I’m not sure the bow is for me. Trousers kindly modelled by my office chair, who is quite happy with a change of scenery to be honest. I then HAD to have this skirt because a) it was 14e and b) its kinda hideous and c) it was 14e. I love cheap and hideous. Logic see?

Finally I purchased this beaut. Some may say it looks like a well-groomed, but nonethless, dead sheepdog and I’m inclined to agree, but I thought: hey – what the hell? It’s not like I can’t afford to look like a dead sheepdog right?

We also ALL loved the cupcakes Jo Linehan made, which were practically inhaled. Models don’t eat, bloggers do. I also LOVED the deep purple lipstick I managed to pinch off Una for a quick go and was pretty happy with the results, spesh as I was worried I would look like the Mother Undead herself, as you can see in my previos post. I think it really accessorised with my drunken eyes. Anyway, it was a great night and long may many more continue (I’m suggesting a monthly event – and maybe even a touring one, but hey – I like to drink…) Links to everyone on the pictures, so have a mosey through all the gals work.

The dress didn’t arrive, the tan turned green, the curls had disappeared after an hour, the bus was only booked the night before and the eyelashes were a joke. But in the end it all came together – just like some messed-up, drunken, Irish, happily-ever-after. So although I only bought the dress two days before, (and the shoes and bag the night before), it was all good and the stress was well worth it. The competition was ‘Fierce’. The style stakes were high and there was an incredible array of very different dresses – Grecian to print, silky to jersey, and very little to very big.

My dress, as you can see, was short – an unusual choice considering only 3 people were wearing short dresses. My original dress was a long, dusty pinkish dress but due to ‘unforeseen circumstances, [the dress] won’t arrive until late next week’. (Damn you House of Fraser and you’re blatant lack of regard for The Most Important Night of a Post-Leaving Cert) After a five minute ‘bitch-fit’ and a 3 minute cry, I ran over to Kildare Village and bought the first dress I tried on (yes, really!) from Karen Millen. A surprise choice as a) I never shop there and b) the dress was short and c) the colour was mint green – a risky decision if ever there was.

Anyway, unfortunately I am having severe writers block due to a lack of sleep (ok i did get 15 hours in total but right now, it definitely doesn’t feel like that) so the time has come to finish up. I need more pizza, more diet coke and a Jersey Shore marathon. Just a small note to Rosemary from The Great Débutante Debacle piece: If only I had listened to you sooner.

Seriously – tweed bicycle shorts – who would have thought it? I was racking my brains of how to do heritage this Winter without looking like Lady of the Manor, and BAM – Stolen Girlfriends Club give me tweed bicycle shorts. They also dabble in jewellery with a line called Heavy Metal, and by the Beard of Zeus, I simply must have that I love you to Death pendant. Intense – moi?
